analysis.<br \/>\nBut the question is no longer: did they use AI?<br \/>\nThe more pressing question is: what did they actually learn\u2014and who owns learning today?<br \/>\nFor decades, education systems have been built on a simple assumption: knowledge is transferred from teacher to student.<br \/>\nThat assumption no longer holds in a world where knowledge is not only accessible, but abundant.<br \/>\nWhat has become scarce is not information, but the ability to understand it, analyze it, and take a position toward it.<br \/>\nAccording to reports by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), the value of education is no longer measured by what students know, but by what they are able to do with what they know.<br \/>\nAt this point, education shifts from delivering content to cultivating thinking,<br \/>\nand from providing ready-made answers to enabling meaningful questioning.<br \/>\nIn this context, artificial intelligence can no longer be seen as just another educational tool.<br \/>\nWe are witnessing a transformation that is reshaping the relationship between student, knowledge, and teacher.<br \/>\nAccording to the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) framework, AI is no longer a standalone subject, but a cross-cutting competency integrated across disciplines.<br \/>\nStudents are no longer expected simply to learn about AI, but to learn through it\u2014to understand how to use it, evaluate its outputs, and detect the biases embedded within it.<br \/>\nEuropean frameworks, aligned with OECD directions, further suggest that learning in this space progresses through stages: engaging with AI, using it, evaluating it, and ultimately designing solutions through it.<br \/>\nAt that point, the student is no longer just a user, but a producer of knowledge.<br \/>\nYet this transformation exposes a deeper challenge.<br \/>\nIf answers are available at the click of a button, what exactly are we assessing?<br \/>\nRecent reports indicate that a significant portion of traditional assessment tasks can now be completed using AI tools without meaningful cognitive effort.<br \/>\nIn such a context, assessment loses its meaning, and certification loses its value if it no longer reflects genuine thinking.<br \/>\nThe question is no longer what the student knows,<br \/>\nbut how they think, how they justify their reasoning, and how they distinguish between accurate and misleading information.<br \/>\nAssessment, therefore, must move beyond measuring outputs and toward understanding the thinking process itself.<br \/>\nAt the same time, the role of the teacher is undergoing a profound transformation.<br \/>\nIt is not diminishing\u2014it is deepening.<br \/>\nThe teacher is no longer a transmitter of knowledge,<br \/>\nbut a designer of learning experiences, a guide for thinking, and a guarantor of meaning in an open knowledge environment.<br \/>\nThis shift requires a redefinition of teacher preparation, moving from a focus on content delivery to the development of deep pedagogical competence.<br \/>\nIn Lebanon, some educational initiatives are beginning to reflect this transformation in practice.<br \/>\nAt the School of Education at the Lebanese International University (LIU), efforts have been made to train teachers in the meaningful integration of AI, rethink assessment approaches, and embed emerging tools within established pedagogical frameworks such as Bloom\u2019s Taxonomy and Understanding by Design (UbD).<br \/>\nThese initiatives have been implemented in collaboration with public and private schools across Lebanon, in partnership with universities in Jordan, and through global training programs with McGraw-Hill.<br \/>\nThey reflect a shift from the simple adoption of technology toward a structured, competency-based integration centered on thinking.<br \/>\nLebanon today stands at a critical crossroads.<br \/>\nWhile this transformation may seem secondary in times of crisis, it is in fact an opportunity to rebuild the education system on more modern, flexible, and equitable foundations.<br \/>\nInternational evidence suggests that AI can help reduce educational gaps, provide personalized learning at lower cost, and improve learning quality even in fragile contexts.<br \/>\nHowever, this potential will not materialize without clear vision, bold policy decisions, and meaningful investment in human capacity before technology.<br \/>\nFrom this perspective, integrating AI into education is no longer a technical matter\u2014it is a strategic decision that touches the very core of the educational system.<br \/>\nDelaying this transformation will not preserve the current system; it will
