Speaker of the Parliament: What is happening in Gaza is a great honor… and we will not exchange an inch of southern land for any positions!
The Speaker of the Parliament, Nabih Berri, does not hide his concern over the Israeli enemy’s persistence in targeting secure southern villages and attempting to drag the resistance into an open war at a timing he deems suitable to compensate for its losses and failure in Gaza.
After Israel’s defeat on October 17 and its subsequent failure to achieve any of its military objectives in the Gaza Strip, it believes it has a historic opportunity to involve the United States in a direct war with the resistance in Lebanon. Since the Americans refuse to expand the war and work to confine it to the Gaza Strip, Netanyahu and his desperate government members are trying to provoke Hezbollah to elicit a reactionary response, providing a pretext to involve everyone with them based on their personal calculations. However, the resistance, which delivers painful blows to their army without deviating from the rules it set for itself, will not give them what they seek.
Regarding the American stance, Berri affirms that Americans oppose an open war in Lebanon and have not given Netanyahu the cover he needs. When asked about Israel’s ability to engage in such a war with Lebanon, Berri says, “Israel cannot fight on two fronts; it started involving America to fight on its behalf.”
The Speaker expresses pride in the heroic acts performed by the Palestinian resistance in Gaza, stating, “What is happening in Gaza is a great honor. In 85 days, Palestinian resistance fighters have presented heroic epics that match or even surpass everything achieved in 75 years of conflict.” Although Israel has killed and destroyed, committing war crimes, it has backfired negatively on it worldwide, even in America. These are not achievements but strategic disasters for the future of the entity.
Regarding the prospect and end of the war, Berri says, “The moon is beautiful, but it needs time to be full. I tell you, the victory of Gaza will be complete despite the pain, sacrifice, and suffering.”
As for the visit of Hockstein to Lebanon, Berri says he heard from the U.S. ambassador that he will visit Lebanon soon. When asked about the possibility of a settlement involving delineating the land borders in exchange for the presidency, Berri responds firmly, “This is empty talk. We will not exchange a single meter of the South for any positions or positions in the state, neither the presidency nor anything else, and there is no basis for this talk.”
However, Mr. President, hasn’t the issue of border delineation been raised before? “Yes, and we will reconsider the matter after the end of the war and the cessation of firing. We have said before and say again: ‘We hope they implement Resolution 1701 and stop attacks on Lebanon’s sovereignty.'”
Regarding the presidency and the talk about a new initiative he will launch after the holidays, Berri affirms that the initiative he presented is not rejected by any reasonable person. Still, the opposition missed a historic opportunity to end the presidential vacuum and restore the regular functioning of institutions. “I don’t have a better offer to present.”
